Oof, so for those who don't know, there's been a leaked internal staff letter that implies that the people on top have given up on tumblr and are moving staff members to other departments, so looks like the end is nigh.
I know a lot of the Castlevania fandom is centralized around mutual circles on tumblr (which is part of why I made this forum, since these spaces can be a little obscure and have a "barrier of entry" for new people who just aren't in the right circles), so if/when the site shutters, what are your plans for where you'll be online? Any interesting thoughts on this news?
(I don't think I'll be joining any more social media after this, I'm pretty satisfied with my website really)

I'll also be sticking to Neocities (and I'm still on Twitter...) in the future. Even if you're like me and you like seeing your posts 'liked' by your friends or whatever, NeoCities has that too on the dashboard. I'm going to really miss all the ethnography and vintage photography tumblr blogs though, they're surprisingly useful to browse to find sources to dig through in that subject....
I might consider giving DreamWidth another try as well, but it seems to be a pretty writer focused thing. Which is predictable given the layout; it's just not my thing. If more people joined there I'd probably find a niche to hole up in, but for now...
With all that said, I do think (hope? lol) Tumblr has at least one more cycle of getting bought at a deficit by some other company before the plug is completely pulled. There's basically no way to run a big social media site at a profit without selling insane amounts of personal data about your customers/users, but capitalists don't seem ready to give up on the internet quite yet. Even myspace is still around even though it's not what it used to be, for example - I'm more worried about things like what happened to myspace's mp3 archive happening than for tumblr to completely disappear anytime soon.

Yeah, I agree with this. Plenty of people host fic, art, etc. on tumblr. There's an option to download your blog but not a lot of people know about it. If this happens it'll be a huge loss.

I really hope tumblr doesn't die. It's interface is better than twitter's when it's not trying to be twitter.
