this forum seems to be dead in the water, so i thought i'd give it a bit of a nudge to try and spark some activity :P
that being said, today's topic of discussion is: besides castlevania, what sort of video games have you been playing recently?
personally, i've been playing a lot of the delightful indie game ultrakill. it's a character action/spectacle fighter/whatever the hell people are calling devil may cry ripoffs these days with boomer-shooter elements that takes heavy inspiration from the divine comedy. (which makes it the third in its genre to do so already... huh.) you play as a robot called v1 who uses the blood of its enemies as fuel, meaning you have to get up close and personal if you want to regain health. it's a high-risk, high-reward system that only serves the game's brutally fast pace.
if i had to give ultrakill a short review, i would say that it's a stupidly fun game that, despite its derivative nature, manages to take its inspirations and make something that feels innovative and fresh, with beautiful retro-inspired graphics and an amazing soundtrack to boot. (pro tip: when the game asks you what kind of graphics you want to play the game with, choose psx. the dithering really brings everything together imo.)
also, don't play this game with a controller. use your keyboard and mouse. trust me on this one.

The new Katamari game! Or, well... I say "new," but it's technically a remake of the second game. I never played the second game, though, cause I didn't have a PS3, so I'm very excited to finally have the chance to play it :)
