cuz i'm curious: how long have you guys known about castlevania, and how did you get into it?
personally, castlevania was a staple of my childhood. as a kid, my family couldn't afford cable, so my primary source of tv entertainment was watching my parents play video games. my dad's also a huge castlevania fan (and has been since he was a kid) and would play through most of the classic side-scroller games somewhat regularly. even though at the time i wasn't very interested in the series compared to, say, zelda, it still left a lasting impression on me. i didn't even recognize that rondo of blood was in japanese when my dad first bought it on the wii store, but i could still vividly recall the opening scene of richter facing off against death years later.
it wasn't until quarantine that i played any of the games for myself, though. i was really into hollow knight at the time, and i wanted to play more metroidvania-style games. my dad had bought bloodstained around the time of its release, so i decided to play that and had a total blast. it was also around this time that my dad managed to get duckstation running on our jank ass family computer, and once i got to play symphony of the night, i knew i was hooked.
i know this forum tends to skew on the younger side of castlevania fans, so i'm curious to learn what introduced you to such a notably "retro" series.

The Netflix show :( But I was like Huh. The cool elements of the fan stuff are from the games. Uh oh is this a new reboot being v different and creating a bunch of fans of the reboot that fill all the tags and have messed with the popular ideas of the charecters. Welp let's try and find a way to play these games. I am Not gonna be That New Fan. (I have been the old fan. It sucks) And then wygolvillage found it and was rlly nice in pointing me in the right direction re good beginer games. And when I started sotn in Richter mode and dident realize lol. And from there I got a games bundle on sale on the switch and started dying to cv3 regularly.

A Pokémon YouTuber I was subscribed to also had a series of videos explaining the plots of various Castlevania games and I was kind of captivated by it all. Portrait of Ruin was the first one I really found out about in depth, which is kind of funny

I always knew it existed and was significant to video game history, but I didn't know much about what it really was until the Netflix show came out (unfortunately). I really enjoyed the first season or two, fool that I was, and then I started looking into it online and I found pictures of Kojima Alucard on Google and was like "Damn, Alucard looks way better in the games, woah!" Then I read a plot summary of CV3 and discovered that there was a wall-climbing knife-throwing gentleman thief pirate hero of the people and they DIDN'T PUT HIM IN THE SHOW and I was like. Yeah ok I'm converting to the church of video games now. So I bought the Rondo/Symphony bundle on PS4 and I've been hooked ever since <3 (Of course I ended up being horrified with the general direction of the show as it continued, but before season 3 came out, finding out about Grant was the thing that really pushed me to get into the games lol)

before smash bros i only really knew about castlevania from avgn (so basically just hard nes/snes games with good music). wasn't until the trailer with simon and richter that i finally gave the games a try and downloaded dracula x chronicles. got hooked and ended up playing almost all of the metroidvanias before smash ultimate released

I'm a very new fan lol, even though obv I knew about Castlevania by fame. A friend of mine got me into several videogame marathons, CV being the latest one last year. While I liked all the series I played, CV really feels like something I should have tried in my childhood, I nearly regret not trying it sooner when I had a working PS2 and DS.

Bloodstained driving people to get into Castlevania is a possibility I hadn't really considered yet and I kind of love it

The first time i remember hearing about castlevania had to be 6-7 years ago when i was into touhou and saw it being used to describe koumajou densetsu scarlet symphony which.. as you can tell by the title, was heavily inspired by sotn. Some time later i also became aware of netflixvania through friends, but what i saw from it didn't pique my interest (unnecessarily crass and unchic)
Then, in 2020 i was somehow alerted to the existence of sotn on the app store. I heard good things about it somewhere and the screenshots looked good so i bought it. I was immediately hooked just like anybody else. Needless to say, when i finished it i was left with an empty void that i couldn't have filled in any other way but by playing more castlevania!
I'd also like to take this opportunity to thank konami for the polarizing smartphone "port", since if it weren't for it i probably wouldn't have played my first castlevania game until much later, if ever

I had been exposed to it because of newgrounds-like animations that would do parodies or songs based on Castlevania and only ever thought the series consisted of Castlevania and Simon's Quest. Not until a couple years later did my friend get me into the games, which I played Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night and Symphony of the Night. From there, it's been about getting exposed to the other games!

I knew abt castlevania peripherically but never got motivated to play it, st least until i saw s1 from the cursed show. I wanted more so i downloaded igavania roms and boom fixation. Took a "break" for a while and last year got hooked again after some replaying and trying other games in the franchise (im so bad at the classics xd) Also shoutout to: - All the pokemon creepypastas that used Albus theme as bg music - That one ooe intro parody with mlp fim characters -My one classmate in highschool who played bloody tears on an electric guitar at our graduation (he even got a cut on his finger while playing and literally stained the poor guitar with blood, Gigachad moment)

That's hilarious.

The earliest I can remember learning about what Castlevania was is some old Smash Bros. roster speculation videos from around 2009-10 where people sometimes would suggest Simon (with his Judgement design LOL). I wouldn't really engage with the series itself until the second season of the Netflix show came out. I gave it a try and didn't come away from it with much of an impression at all. At this point tho I think Simon and Richter were in Smash Ultimate and I understood that SotN was like a huge deal. I'd end up trying SotN in 2020 after playing a ton of Metroid games and I loved it especially for its music and visuals but couldn't really get into it for some reason, probably got lost. It would take me til around a year later when the Advance Collection was announced for Switch that I'd feel urged to try these games, especially cuz a close friend also liked the series, although I never ended up buying the collection for myself, I just got all the games on my 3DS starting with Aria which really helped me get into the series, probably cuz it was easier and less cryptic.
Short answer is smash/cultural osmosis -> Netflix -> SotN but that doesn't sound as unique -_-
