anyone ever make musical associations to the series/characters/games?
richter forever and always reminds me of 80s metal, particularly power metal and some thrash. stuff like judas priest (mmm especially painkiller), ozzy osbourne (mainly the ultimate sin, which i also associate with the series at large, and alucard), dio, rainbow, and some black sabbath (mostly heaven and hell- for all those last three its mostly ronnie james dio on vocals so ill mark him down too)
maybe its because rondo and sotn both have rock/metal elements to its ost, ESPECIALLY in prologue (my boss literally thought i had a metallica ringtone lol- i have it set to prologue) and obv the tragic prince. anyway its just extremely fitting for richter and even the lyrics they tend to write is very Sotn
i think richter in-universe would also really like traditional music, and i also think they would be into dancing! in my headcanon, the church never taught richter how to dance or play music, but that after rondo richter picked it up quickly after retiring to the village. i think richter isnt as great at playing music as dancing to it, but is a very good drummer (simple instrument, easy to follow, i do think richter can keep a beat perfectly)
alucard has a lot of musical skill, i think drac gave them lessons and back then alucard wasnt too into it because yknow, shitty father, but that after sotn they picked it up again and it was an instant obsession. maria also LOVES music, pretty good at play, absolutely excellent at dancing too! i think alucard is really stiff and not good at dancing, richter is good but clumsy (definitely has the spirit though)
legally i am required to associate alucard mostly with classical ( refer to my husband's playlist) as im sure its what they grew up with a like to play. after sotn they learn traditional songs as well, and learn how to fiddle rather than Play The Violin Properly like drac taught them. i also associate alucard with black metal (maybe some death metal- gotta be spooky though). theres a large handful of king crimson songs which also give me big alucard feelings
maria is a tough one because my mind can physically only associate her with fighting game ost and arcade music ( THIS SONG for example). there is SOME nu metal though that i think is cool for maria
i also tend to associate juste maxim and lydie with 60s/70s/80s stuff like classic rock or pop music of the era. no idea why
as for the series as a whole, black metal, doom metal, and "classic" metal like black sabbath (especially black sabbath oh my god.. its about the dark religious tones. master of reality is the epitome of my point here)

I associate Shanoa with anything that sounds like Evanescence lol. she was born to have 240p AMVs made about her... But I also kind of associate her with a lot of those weird obscure 90s ethereal-goth bands I kept finding on Youtube, she would appreciate This Ascension and Autumn and stuff like that... Maybe she'd like SATB too, Shanoa is just kind of a mush of female fronted, dark-sounding music (goth or otherwise), to me
Albus is harder to pin down but I kind of get Bauhaus vibes from him ? But the most random music will give me Albus vibes tbh especially if it's kind of abrasive and rough
Laura reminds me of kind of "weird" dreamy and artsy music like Cocteau Twins or Kate Bush and so on. Especially with synths.
I have a similar association between Richter and metal that may have originated from your influence lol but I also kind of think of Dracula as a metal guy too
Also Yoko is generally very 80s synth pop to me

Castlevania as a whole is visual kei to me. I mean, Arikado looks like Atsushi Sakurai, Mana did a ringtone to promote Harmony of Dissonance (which is now lost media apparently), Malice Mizer has a song named after Symphony of the Night, and Ayami Kojima did album covers for Kamijo... There's a lot of overlap :)

Im an ignorant regarding music genres and bands so i'll just assign songs based on ❇vibes❇
Both Daffodil and Cassandra by Florence and the Machine give me such post-canon Sara vibes- let my kind sweet girl be driven mad and deranged with violence and isolation :) (specifically Cassandra gives me post-1999 vibes; her quest is over and she has nothing to fight anymore, she's been abandoned and the 900 years of everything are crashing down on her)
Also, there's this song in spanish called Sangre del Mundo by Muerdo, and im not sure abt the vibes there the lyrics are absolutely 100% Alucard. I can't search for a translation rn but here's the chorus bc come to my face and tell me Alu didn't ghost wrote this: "Look at me, its no accident i'm still here, the heart beating Look, we're the blood of the world Pumping light, from the coffin i jumped again, for you i resurrected Look, look..."
On the same spanish songs vein, Hijo de la Luna by Mecano gives me either Soma or Hector vibes, with the whimsical tone and the legend of a son of the moon~ (the lyrics can be a bit insensitive tho ? Im not sure but warning just in case)
And talking abt Soma, Kitchen Fork by Jack Conte def describes his emotional state in aria of sorrow and i swear one day i'll make an amv out of it
idk i might add more later? And apologies for lack of direct links rn

I actually associate Alucard with new wave and some of the more synthy post punk, I just know he'd enjoy Pink Turns Blue and stuff. For all his cool video game guy posturing at the end of the day he's kind of a dork, and that just seems fitting (it's also my favorite genres overall, coincidentally) For characters who lived and died prior to the advent of recording I don't get very realistic with my opinions: I think Simon should like Depeche Mode and London After Midnight because he looks like he should, to state things as plainly as possible Juste would've been a new wave fan for sure if he was alive at the right time. Kate Bush listener kind of guy I like to consider Julius as the kind of guy who will try anything and has, as a result, a very wide range of tastes. He was born to be someone's favorite Record Store Guy, and fate just sadly had other plans for him so it's a hobby and not his career :P I do project onto him a bit by thinking of his favorite band as KinoI like that you (OP) brought up Heaven and Hell, the Molchat Doma cover actually reminds me of Soma! Past Life by House of Harm is another one for him, I just don't have enough to make a full playlist.

Leon is permanently associated with Within Temptation and We Are the Emergency specifically for me, though I also do keep joking about him going through "the garden by the crane wives emotion". this might be in part because I spent so long desperately itching to make a mental amv to the song but could never find a good fit until after watching loi.
As a whole I think the Belmonts would love metal, though they'd probably all have their own niches. as the Within Temptation association might hint, Leon's more symphonic metal, female vocalists... Trevor I think would like harsher noise, possibly even leaving metal genre and going out into speedcore/raver music. I don't have any specific thoughts about the other guys though...
Soma I think is like... you know how people talk about playlists that are all Mother Mother, Lemon Demon, Glass Animals, Tally Hall, even when it doesn't fit? I think that these are all within Soma's tastes and almost definitely the surface level musical impression you'd get from him. I think he also likes things that feel weird and incongruous with this though, like. He listens to early 2000s anime and warrior cats amv music. He either knows a lot of goth music or has only ever listened to Bela Lugosi's Dead. A few other things. Also I think he knows a few metal songs but he's not really into the genre. It's not the right noise to him.
Sypha would like the Crane Wives and things of similar sound/vibes I think. The very first song I ever put on a Sypha playlist was Volta (Live).

skipped this thread initially because i just. don't usually look at characters through the lens of music unless they have a specific theme associated with them, but i've been listening to ghost reveries by opeth again recently and man......... reverie / harlequin forest is giving me major alucard vibes that i just can't shake.
i'd love to make an amv out of it, if not for the fact that it's a 12-minute song. and also my art is doodoo and i can't animate to save my life
ah well. such is the life of a prog fan, i guess.
