Since a few people agreed with my sentiment that every Castlevania fan seemingly has "their" game, that others associate with them, etc... Which one do you think of as "yours"?
Mine is Order of Ecclesia as you can probably tell by... just about everything about my account, lol.

Despite not having my favorite characters or favorite soundtrack, probably Harmony of Dissonance. I love love love the furniture collecting as well as the spellbook mechanic, and while people criticize it for its gaudy colors and fucked up sounding music, I somehow find all that endearing. (Even if I've recently learned that it actually looked much more toned down on a GBA screen, it's not supposed to be all fluorescent green and pink Heartbreaking...) I also really like how, while it works as a standalone game and isn't a sequel or prequel to anything, the story does a great job of driving home the horrors of the Belmont legacy and setting up for what we all know is coming with Symphony of the Night. It's not a prequel by any means, but definitely something of a prelude to Richter's downfall. Also Juste's outfit fucks so hard 10/10

To be fair the colors really ARE like that, it's just that the GBA screen has no backlight, so the brighter colors are more visible WITH a light.

Well yeah, but from what I understand they were designed to compensate for the lack of backlight, so they set things to x color knowing that the end result would look like y on the actual game screen. Which is pretty clever of them! But disappointing to me who just genuinely thinks it's fun for a game to be kind of hideous lol

would it be legal to say that "my" castlevania game is bloodstained curse of the moon 2 maybe castlevania iii, im just very fond of the four idiots and their silly (read: oh no) adventure that ends in tragedy and truly kickstarts whats next to come (im AWFUL at the actual game though. like honestly horrendous. genuinely incapable of playing it)

At this point... probably Lament of Innocence. While I think the execution was rough and did a bad job at making you care about the central tragedy (I have soooo many thoughts from a story analysis perspective and maybe one day I'll put them all down).... I also fell for it hook, line, and sinker :'') so it must've done something right. It is also just my Absolute Favorite kind of tragedy, a real "to understand the weight of the tragedy you must first understand that there was love". Whatever can be said of Mathias/Dracula, no matter what else anyone can say or how they interpret him, I have to believe in him and Leon truly being best friends and him truly caring about Leon, even if that care grew all twisted up in LOI. Because that's just what makes it hit SO hard, that all this thousand year long cycle happened at the betrayal and falling out of two very close friends, and the hurt passed down. It is soooo [chef's kiss] absolutely perfect. LOVE this. Eating it up.
Also it's what I keep drawing and writing for, and I made my name and icon on here leonbelmont, now didn't I.

Curse of Darkness, pretty obvious at this point. Gamewise, it appeals to me on a deep level. Raising monsters? Finding their many evolutions and unlocking new moves, which is great for replay value? A satisfying cycle of fighting to get better weapons to get better at fighting? I'm sold! Even its flaws are something I'm willing to work around with, yes we heard it all about the lackluster level design, I don't care, I get to pull off sick combos. And it's so stupid but in a good way, the story takes itself just seriously enough for you to get invested, but the characters, their voice acting and their animation is over the top, and the game itself has silly moments like the joke weapons and the chairs - do you want to defeat a wyvern with a frying pan? You can! Do you want to steal Dracula's throne to spite him? You can! But most importantly, I did not expect to fall for the characters so hard. I liked Isaac for the get-go because he's funny :P but I am so glad that the two prequel mangas exist (rip lament of innocence's): while they are very different even in characterization, they give an extra dimension to Hector and Isaac, they show their character development (or breakdown, in Isaac's case), and they really emphasize the tragedy of being a Devil Forgemaster, cursed humans that don't belong anywhere. Also they flesh out Rosaly! She's no longer Dead Wife #3! Now I actually feel awful that she was killed! Hurray!

i don't think i have one............ sotn is by far the one i've played the most, and the one whose characters and plot i have the most Thoughts about, but aos is a really close second, and there's this grandiose idea for a simon's quest comic adaptation that i'd like to see fully realized someday..........
not to mention that i've never really "made it" enough in the castlevania fandom for other people to associate me with any of the games. it's complicated.
