so i have an idea that i want to play around with in regards to julius's amnesia, but it's been a while since i've played aos and i'm kind of fuzzy on the details & i don't trust the castlevania wiki so i thought i'd ask some questions here:
is there a definitive, canon reason as to why julius lost his memories and how they returned? i know it has something to do with the demon castle war, but are there any specifics that we know of?
really i just want to know how much vague handwavey stuff there is that i can do whatever i want with lol

I always headcanoned that Dominus had something to do with it somehow, like maybe it was part of the eclipse ritual or smth

i have two personal headcanons, one being that the amnesia is a curse placed upon julius by dracula, and the other that its a side-effect of the ritual

Nothing has ever been stated or even really implied about it. The one thing is that while he doesn't remember anything, it's implied he still gets emotional responses from his subconscious over things he would recognize, since in his first introduction in Aria he mentions being "filled with fear" when he hears Dracula's name.
Anything beyond that is up to interpretation.

i think my headcanon would maybe be that he was traumatized? and dissociation keeping him from remembering. it would fit with implication that he gets emotional about what he might remember. thats not very fantasy, but i do like the psychological stuff in the series

Yeah, there's no canon explanation currently. Honestly I do just like the idea of it being like... perfectly ordinary head injury sustained while hiding away Vampire Killer, perhaps from some debris from the castle crumbling (...unless it just stayed intact inside the eclipse but if that's implied then I am not aware). The idea that it was nothing supernatural, no curse or spell or sacrifice. Just something... ordinary. Perhaps even avoidable.
The idea of it being trauma repressed memories is equally as plausible + might even work together in tandem with/as another contributing factor to head injury. The way he regains memories in revisiting the castle is really... yeah I can see it.
