Order of Ecclesia for sure :D I find Shanoa's character arc to be so compelling. The way it plays with tropes of previous games (like the evil cult, the possessed rival, etc) is fascinating. Also it's got lesbians

symphony of the night, its a really cool sequel for rondo of blood. there's a lot of interesting character development as well as ambiguity which makes it fun to think about, as well as moral struggles and self-conflict which are also interesting concepts. not to mention i think it was around here that there started to really be an overarching theme for the series, generational trauma and cycles of abuse, which later become pretty common themes for the characters in a lot of the games. i like the the game was sort of revolutionary for the series, in terms of story gameplay and art direction too

Partially SOTN because of the whole cycle thing.
But also LOI, not just because it's an origin story and not because it has two of my favourite characters.
It's interesting seeing Mathias aware he's not actually doing this in the name of love, but feeling that he's gone too far already, especially with how he reacts when Leon tells him as such. Makes me think he needs to justify his actions to himself, and that he's fully aware no one else believes him, but it makes him think he's in the right. Also he deserves to have it all fall apart on him, and it's interesting seeing Leon confront him.

SotN may be my favourite game but the story of the Sorrow series means so much to me,,,, it's just the perfect end to Castlevania and brings closure to so many characters and AH. love the Sorrow games

Aria of Sorrow is my absolute favorite. I think it's probably one of the best written Castlevanias (at least out of the ones I have played/observed), very narrowly beating out sotn (which is also REALLY well written. I just like Aria's themes a bit more).
I wish I could say Lament of Innocence here too, but honestly as much as I love its story and am a sucker for the exact type of tragedy that it is... the writing does not carry its tragedy very well. Sad! Well I can make it better in my head and the version of it in my head is my other favorite game. Which feels like a perfect bookend to Aria of Sorrow honestly... the start and the end of the cycle.

rondo/sotn and bloodlines/por (ok bloodlines doesn't have much story but. it does to me also it is important to por that is my reasoning lol) not many cv stories were that engaging to me but portrait of ruin... idk it's very tragic for how light-hearted the rest of the game feels. nothing went right for my guy eric :'(

Portrait like, posthumously adds so much depth to Bloodlines it's insane. idk portrait is so good <3 the silly anime art makes it easy to forget that it really is A Game About Grief and also A Ghost Story.
